Camp EAGR is a residential summer camp for boys and girls, ages 8 to 17, who have epilepsy, regardless of seizure control, but who are ambulatory and capable of managing their own personal care needs.  The camp gives campers an unforgettable opportunity to learn more about themselves and others with epilepsy while providing them with a traditional summer camp experience.

The 2010 camp session is August 15 - August 21.

The camp is located near Warsaw, New York  in Genesee County at the YMCA's Camp Weona, which hosts Camp EAGR for a week each August. Campers participate in a number of activities including:

  •     arts & crafts
  •     canoeing
  •     swimming
  •     nature
  •     horseback riding
  •     campfires
  •     astronomy
  •     organized sports
  •     epilepsy education and peer support

All activities are led or supervised by mature staff members and community volunteers.  Staff members are available to campers 24 hours a day, every day. The camper to staff ratio is 3 to 1. Medical staff associated with Camp EAGR have experience with seizures and remain at camp for the entire week.

Staff includes:

  •     1 on-site consulting neurologist
  •     1 registered physician assistant
  •     2-3 on-site nurses for daily distribution of medication and basic first aid

Camp Weona is certified by the NYS Health Department and is accredited by the American Camping Association. In addition, the camp has emergency medical technicians and is about 16 miles from Wyoming County Community Hospital.  All staff members receive special training in seizure recognition, first aid, and camp emergency procedures.
